    Client Challenge

Installation of 14 NPS 6 HDPE electrical conduits under the Deerfoot Trail freeway to supply power to the South Calgary Health Campus.

    Entec’s Solution

Entec provided route evaluation, geotechnical investigation, feasibility analysis, detailed design, contract preparation, tendering and construction support.  Detailed design included design of the microtunnel, and thermal grouting. The goal of the project was to identify technically feasible solutions to crossing a provincial highway and daily commute for thousands of residents while meeting the needs of a new, state of the art hospital.

    Results & Client Benefit

Utilization of microtunneling allowed the project to be completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Traffic on the freeway was unaffected, and the reduced construction footprint of the microtunneling minimized the impact on the sensitive environment in the Bow River Valley.
